Description:

The Student Guard position supports campus safety efforts in coordination with the Southern Utah University Police Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Lock and secure campus buildings at designated times
  • Ensure buildings remain secure throughout assigned shifts
  • Monitor campus facilities and grounds for safety concerns
  • Report maintenance issues, damage, or suspicious activity to the duty officer
  • Maintain detailed and accurate logs during each shift
  • Assist with campus events as needed
  • Work primarily during evening, overnight, and weekend shifts
  • Support a safe and secure campus environment for students, staff, and visitors
  • Report directly to the on-duty officer or supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Southern Utah University
  • Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and integrity
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive during evening, overnight, and weekend shifts
  • Good communication skills with the ability to clearly and accurately report information
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively under the supervision of the SUU Police Department
  • Basic problem-solving skills and sound judgment in identifying and reporting concerns
  • Ability to walk or patrol campus for extended periods, work in varying weather conditions, and be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to maintain detailed and accurate activity logs
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to learn campus policies and safety procedures
